Paraphrasing Assignment

ORIGINALAmericans tell me that it is not their fault the world is overpopulated. The fault lies in Asia and Africa where people have large families. Yet each American consumes 11 times the resources of someone living in Asia or Africa. Americans import these resources from all over the planet. Every American kid counts as 11 kids in terms of burden on the planetary ecosystem. Not only do Americans need to reverse their population growth, they must reduce their ecological footprint. Each American woman has about 2.07 children, equivalent to a family of 23 children in terms of drain on the ecosystem.

PARAPHRASEAmerica may not accept the responsibilty of adding to the world's overpopulation problem, and would rather put the blame on countries likes Asia and Africa because of their large family size. But have we ever stopped to think about what the real problem with overpopulation is? Overconsumption! American's may only have 2 children per mother, on average, but those two children count for as much as 22 children in their life time, as far as putting a drag on the economy and ecosystem. So when someone has 15 children, like the octo-mom and all the cute couples you see on TLC and Bravo, that's the equivalent to having 165 human beings consuming what the Earth has to offer! America needs to rethink their position on where they stand as far as overpopulating the world, and eventually destroying it.
